Suffice to say we will never pick there again and based on how we were treated I suggest that no one else do so either. I am a native Vermonter and I know "Vermonters" can be a bit grumpy but this "guy" was rude and and behaved like a nasty, miserable man. His behavior and demeanor reminded me of the movie "Deliverance".
My family and I picked 120 pounds of apples and paid just under $100 for them. They were a bit scabby but okay quality for apple sauce and pies. After we had paid for the apples and were about to pickup the bags the owner pointed his finger at my wife and said "Don't climb the trees". I intervened and told him we had not climbed any trees nor had we seen anyone else climbing trees. He said it looked like I had and again I told him we had not. He continued to disagree and the interaction went down hill quick. My kids are all in their 20s and no one needed to climb any of the dwarf trees and no one did.
I suggest you AVOID DOLLY GRAY ORCHARD!
We have since been to Burt's Orchard in Cabot. The apples were not scabby, there was a better variety and we had wonderful time and were treated with respect from people who actually smiled!
Great place to go..Don't pay attention to some of these pinheads
